I'm thinking a head to christmas and am having a tuff time figuring out what I'm going to do. I live in a 30ft 5th wheel trailer now so I need to think light weight. I have a 5ft tree that we want to decorate in a rustic, cabin/lodge style. Nothing fancy or childish. Just simple, earthy ornaments. I have been searching ebay and other places online and am having very little luck getting inspired. So who better to ask than all the crafty crafters here? What are your ideas for christmas ornaments that I can make? Come on..... inspire me!
Thanks! ~Z

Re: Jumping into christmas early ~ Ornament ideas please! (x-post)
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 9:04 PMHey, I posted this on Crafty Vixens also.
Cinnamon Sticks bundled with a ribbon and a sprig of mistletoe
Clothes pin ornaments ~ People & Figures, Rustic Reindeer, Pine Trees; use acrylic paint and craft accessories.
Etched Glass Designs ~ Buy clear glass ornaments, etch creme, and a Dimensional Adhesive for Foil/Foil Leaf. Use the glue to make designs, let it dry, cover with etch creme, and then rinse. Every thing rinses off.
Hurricane Lamp Glass - for a soft snowy effect, use the etch creme again for decorating.
Good Ole Cranberry and Popcorn strings ~ its amazing what it does for a tree.
Glittered Pinecones
Acorns
Bread dough ornaments~ esp scented bread dough
Oranges with cloves stuck into them
Bunches of dried herbs and flowers
Simple felt creations ~ felt is very affordable and can be sewn into anything
Thats all I can think of right now! -

Mon, August 3, 2009 - 9:24 AMHey thanks for the ideas!
I'm trying to stay away from glass or anything fragile. With the 5th wheel we do travel a lot so I like keeping the possibility of damages to a minimum.
I like the ideas of the cinnamon sticks bundled with a ribbon and mistletoe, cranberry and popcorn strings, pinecones and acorns, oranges with cloves, and the dried herbs and flowers though. Very nice ideas! Earthy and rustic and oh so easy to do. I can't believe I didn't think of them. I guess I've been into the commercial decorations for way to many years. LOL
Thanks so much for the inspirations!!! *hugs* -

Re: Jumping into christmas early ~ Ornament ideas please! (x-post)
Tue, August 11, 2009 - 10:36 AMAs a kid, we would 'recycle' the previous year's christmas cards by cutting them into circles (used a soup can to draw the circles - couple of cans for different sizes), then folding the edges to make triangles and squares. With enough of them, they could be stapled, taped or glued together to form rough pyramids and cubes. Add some thread and you can tie them to the tree. While simple, they can be surprisingly colorful. -

Tue, August 11, 2009 - 1:13 PMOMG I completely forgot about those. I remember them being everywhere when I was a kid, and they were pretty easy to make too. Thanks for the nostalgia!
