I'm working on macrame' straps for gourd water bottles. Is anyone else out there still doing macrame'? Or trying it for the first time?

Sat, September 17, 2005 - 10:53 AMI worked with some artists during the 70's that had a kiln in their backyard. They would make clay suns the size of dinner plates, and giant ceramic beads colored with iron oxide, and then macrame these giant sun wheels to sell at the local Earthcrafters store. -

Re: Macrame'
Sun, September 25, 2005 - 12:38 PMI still macrame' too! Mostly jewelry, but I've made a few plant hangers, and I was thinking about making one of those old 70's style wall hanging 'samplers'! I found this amazing picture of one at the used book store, but there are no instructions for it in the booklet it's on. Bummer -- guess I'll have to fake it. -

Re: Macrame'
Sat, March 3, 2007 - 8:33 AMI love macrame too. I have been having a hard time finding supplies lately though. I love making plant hangers, wall hangings, curtains and such. Not so much into jewelry. I loke the bigger items.
So, does anyone have a good online resource for supplies? I can find a bajillion books on ebay, but that's about it. I need good beads and twine/cord, etc.
Thanks!

Fri, July 6, 2007 - 4:13 AMHi Amazon! I've never even heard of the e-book, but there are actually free sites out there that will tell you a lot about the knots.
For basic instructions on a whole buncha knots, try here:
www.knotingwork.com/
For the fancier knots
www.elainecraft.com/instruct...ions.html
I do macrame for a lot of my work. It's hard to see, but the jewelry drape on my cascading headdress
www.auralynne.com/cascade.html
is made using macrame with black waxed cotton cord.
Then my macrame belt
www.auralynne.com/beltm.html
is made using the double hitch diamond technique on the elainecraft website - from jiffy thick and quick yarn! -

Fri, July 6, 2007 - 7:29 AMThanks Auralynne!
I loved having a look at the links you posted. I have quite a bit of info on knots, and some great vintage 70's patterns. My problem is finding supplies. I have an awful time getting anything. Living in WY (for now) is a nightmare when it comes to shopping for anything. Even online I'm having trouble. Maybe I'm just missing something and not looking in the right places. LOL
Love, Love, Love your macrame belt!!!!!
